Velma Barber, HCI-CHC, HCI-CLC

Health Coach

From an early age, Velma enjoyed staying physically active through sports and exercise. This passion led to a degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Health from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. Following graduation, she spent nearly two decades in K–12 education, where she also had the privilege of coaching various middle school sports.

Despite a strong educational background in health and fitness, Velma adhered to the mindset of “I work out so I can eat and drink whatever I want” for many years. Regular exercise seemed to be enough to maintain a sense of well-being—until it wasn’t. Several years ago, she began experiencing chronic fatigue, excessive hair loss, sleepless nights, brain fog, forgetfulness, and other persistent symptoms. After being diagnosed with a thyroid condition and starting medication, her thyroid levels improved, but the symptoms persisted.

Determined to feel better and heal, Velma sought out alternative and holistic approaches. This journey led to the realization that nutrition plays a critical role in overall health and well-being. As her unexplained symptoms began to subside, she became convinced that how she felt was directly tied to what she consumed and how she nurtured her body.

Today, Velma is a certified Health and Life Coach with a holistic approach and a primary focus on nutrition. She is passionate about partnering with individuals who are looking to increase their energy, improve overall well-being, and establish sustainable health habits. Whether someone feels overwhelmed by conflicting nutrition advice, is struggling to implement healthier habits, or simply needs personalized guidance and accountability, Velma provides compassionate support tailored to each client’s unique needs.

Areas of expertise include:

  • Dietary analysis and education

  • Strategic planning and accountability

  • Developing healthy habits that last

  • Personalized nutrition plans and meal prepping

  • Food label reading and ingredient analysis

  • Guided meal planning for long-term success

  • Compassionate support and encouragement throughout the wellness journey

Velma is excited to connect with clients and help them achieve lasting health and vitality.

What our patients are saying about us

Fantastic Experience

I can't even begin to explain how much Dr. Faulkner has done to improve my quality of life. She's taught me so much about listening to my body and doing what helps me. The relief she's brought me over the last few months has honestly changed my life for the better. I can't express my gratitude enough! Would definitely recommend.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. Everyone is so nice and friendly. The services they provide are amazing and you can tell that they truly care about their patients. Highly recommend Apex Sports Medicine to anyone who's looking to feel better!

Relieved Pain

"I am beyond thankful for Apex! The moment I walk in the door I know I am welcome and going to be well taken care of. I have seen both Meghan and Mary for some time and recommend them every chance I get. Both of these ladies always start with an open conversation about my current pain/need, and then a treatment follows specific to my individual needs. Also, the front desk staff are wonderful! They are willing to make insurance calls and help you figure out the best plan financially."
